Santa Carolina is Carolina Wine Brands’ flagship brand. With a history spanning over 140 years, Viña Santa Carolina was established in 1875 by Luis Pereira, who named it after his wife, Carolina Iñiguez. Located in Santiago, the winery’s facilities and underground cellar are a National Monument and are open to the public at large. With sales in excess of 25 million bottles, Santa Carolina’s wines are available in over 90 countries. In 2015, Santa Carolina celebrated its 140th anniversary and was chosen the New World Winery of the Year by the prestigious American magazine Wine Enthusiast.

Del’s Is Back

Narragansett Beer is relaunching summer seasonal Del’s Shandy, a mix of Narragansett lager and Del’s lemon concentrate. The 4.7%-abv brew is available across Narragansett’s East Coast distribution area in six-packs of 16-ounce cans and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans. Six-packs will retail at around $10 and 12-packs will sell at around $15. Narragansett Del’s Summer Shandy will be available throughout the summer season.

People won’t drink wine that tastes like this, finds new study

Researchers from Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontario, tested the link between alcohol consumption and people’s responsiveness to different taste sensations and found that those who are good at perceiving sensations like bitterness and astringency in foods are more likely to be drinkers of all kinds of alcoholic beverages while those of who respond strongly to qualities such as sourness and umami (a savoury, meaty taste) are less likely to drink wine in particular.

Now you don’t have to go to Boston for this world-class French wine course! Set yourself apart from your peers and specialize in the wines of France. Gain the confidence to taste, sell, and speak meaningfully about all aspects of French wine, from Champagne to Bordeaux and everything in between. Pass the exam and earn the title French Wine Scholar and FWS post-nominal.

Developed by the Wine Scholar Guild with the support of the French Ministry of Agriculture, this specialization program is designed for advanced students of wine, whether professionals or serious wine hobbyists. This is NOT an introductory wine class; students should have professional wine experience or previous classroom study. Students must be familiar with the concepts of viticulture and vinification, major grape varieties, wine regions, and wine styles from across the globe, and have experience tasting wine in a formal setting.
