Jägermeister Cold Brew Coffee, A New Coffee Liqueur Extension

Mast-Jägermeister US today unveils Jägermeister Cold Brew Coffee, the company’s latest innovation, which is set to launch nationally in January. The liqueur is made with a base of Jägermeister blended with flavors of Arabica coffee and cacao. It targets the shot occasion, aiming to attract brand loyalists as well as coffee fans. The 33% abv release will retail in the U.S. at around $25 a 750-ml. and $33 a liter. Jägermeister Cold Brew Coffee also will be available in the U.K., with select travel retail markets to follow.

“We wanted to recruit a new generation of drinkers, and knew we had to create a liqueur to be enjoyed across numerous occasions,” said Mast-Jägermeister US’s CMO Chris Peddy. Director of innovation Jack Carson called it a natural idea, as Jägermeister and coffee already are a common pairing among fans.

The new release will cap a period of innovation for the brand, with CEO Jeff Popkin pointing to recent releases Mini Meisters, Coolpack, and Manifest as areas of success. The Coolpacks have performed particularly well, especially in national retail accounts. “The take rate has been excellent,” says Popkin. “The 375-ml. business is doing very well.”

Why Big Doesn’t Always Mean Bad

Companies don’t grow to that size by selling wine consumers find offensive. And they don’t stay in business by shipping products which get taken right back to the store. The wines are clean. If anything, they are clean to a fault.

Fortified wine means any wine, of more than sixteen percent (16%) and no more than twenty-four percent (24%) alcohol by volume, made by fermentation from grapes, fruits, berries, rice, or honey; or by the addition of pure cane, beet, or dextrose sugar; or by the addition of pure brandy from the same type of grape, fruit, berry, rice, or honey that is contained in the base wine and produced in accordance with the regulations of the United States. Part of Bardstown, Kentucky-based Heaven Hill’s portfolio, Larceny Bourbon is at 46% abv and retails for $25 a 750-ml. Last year, Larceny depleted 103,000 cases in the U.S., up 21%, according to Impact Databank.

Stoli Group Unveils New Upscale Tequila, Villa One

Stoli Group has partnered with musician and actor Nick Jonas and fashion designer John Varvatos on a new high-end Tequila brand called Villa One. The new entry will debut nationally next month, including 100%-blue agave Silver ($45 a 750-ml.), Reposado ($50), and Añejo ($60) expressions made at Stoli Group’s Fabrica de Tequilas Finos distillery by master distiller Arturo Fuentes. All are at 40% abv.

The Villa One brand was inspired by a trip that Jonas and Varvatos took to Mexico last year. The duo is responsible for Villa One’s bottle design, which includes jewelry-inspired metalwork that’s a signature of the John Varvatos brand, and will promote the label under the tagline “Life as it should be.” Stoli Group acting president and CEO Rudy Costello noted that the ultra-premium Tequila space is continuing its strong growth trend, and is projected to expand by about 8% this year.

“At launch, we’re focusing on high-quality distribution channels and ensuring that the brand is introduced the right way,” Stoli noted in a statement to SND. “We own our own distillery, so we can manage demand along the way, but we do have long-term aspirations to compete with the top five tequilas in the ultra-premium sector.” Villa One joins the existing Cenote Tequila in Stoli Group’s brand stable.

Why Wine is Essential to Being a Good Mother

When you think of motherhood, ingesting substances is not the first thing that comes to mind. But a lot of us mothers would tell you that they have become an integral part of the process.

New Whistle Pig

WhistlePig is launching its most mature whiskey to date, WhistlePig Double Malt Rye—Aged 18 Years. It’s distilled from a mash bill that includes both malted rye and malted barley, a traditional formulation that grew rarer over the years. The full mash bill is 79% rye, 15% malted rye, and 6% malted barley. Double Malt Rye is bottled at 46% abv in a decanter adapted from a WhistlePig bottle and accompanied by a glass stopper custom-made by Burlington, Vermont-based AO Glass, using a salvaged 19th century glass pressing machine. Limited quantities will be released each year to select liquor stores and on-premise locations nationwide at a suggested retail price of $400 a 750-ml.

IS ALL NATURAL WINE ORGANIC?

The short answer to your question is no, but let me explain. Natural wine as a term is not regulated, and several definitions exist. According to Raw Wine, the premier festival devoted to wine we might call natural, “no legal definitions of natural wine currently exist, but various official-ish ones do, set by groups of growers in various countries, including France, Italy and Spain.” These official-ish definitions state that growers should practice organic or biodynamic farming, but, due to geographic diversity and other factors, a winery is not required to be certified organic in order to produce what it calls natural wine. Because of this, one cannot guarantee that every bottle of natural wine is indeed organic.

The moral of the story is that if your goal is to drink organic wine, either make sure the wine is certified as such, or do your research. Many producers say the reason they can’t officially label their wines “organic” is because certification is so expensive. That means it’s on you to make sure you’re buying wine and supporting farmers you believe in.

New DOCG

DOCG #75 is in for 🇮🇹 now we can sleep in tightly…🙄 Wine Scholar Guild news #boston #italianwine #winelover 🍷

“At the beginning of July the DOC Tullum/Terre Tollesi in Abruzzo was elevated to DOCG. The DOC was originally created in 2008.

Although this area has long-standing winemaking tradition, this DOC is rather obscure and considerably small. The area under vine accounts for less than 25 ha (60 ac). There are currently only two producers using the Tullum DOC designation and the total production accounts for about less than 100,000 bottles. According to the consorzio, the DOCG will soon attract more producers to invest in this area.

The DOC allowed for a wide range of grapes and styles. Following the introduction of the DOCG however, the grapes and wine styles allowed have been restricted to Montepulciano (labeled as Rosso) and varietal Pecorino and Passerina. A spumante (Chardonnay based) is still allowed under the DOCG.”
