More Details
The French Wine Scholar program is coming to southern Massachusetts! After many years of this internationally recognized certification program being offered in Boston it is now available to wine professionals and French wine enthusiasts who can’t always make the trip into the city. Mark Lenzi, CSW/CSS/FWS/IWS, owner of Franklin Liquors and founder of the Franklin Wine Club, and I are extremely excited to be able to offer this program to you and your staff who are looking for world-class wine education outside of Boston.
Why become a French Wine Scholar?
Set yourself apart from your peers. Gain the confidence to taste, sell, and speak meaningfully about all aspects of French wine, from Champagne to Bordeaux and everything in between.
Developed and administrated by the Wine Scholar Guild with the support of the French Ministry of Agriculture, this specialization program provides current, accurate and in-depth information on the wines and wine regions of France. It is designed for advanced students of wine, whether professionals or serious wine hobbyists. This is NOT an introductory wine class; students should have professional wine experience or previous classroom study.
Students who follow this in-depth curriculum and pass the 100-question multiple choice exam will earn the French Wine Scholar title and FWS post-nominal. Those individuals who achieve a score of 75 or higher will pass; candidates scoring 85-90 pass with Honors, and candidates scoring 91-100 pass with Highest Honors.
If you are a member of the beverage or hospitality trades, and you deal with wine on a daily basis, this course is for you! Restaurant beverage managers, sommeliers, wholesalers, and retailers will all benefit from the wealth of knowledge provided. You’ll immediately be able to apply what you’re learning to your daily work as you interact more fully with your suppliers and customers, clients and guests on the subject of French wine. The French Wine Scholar Program covers French wine law, grape varieties, viticulture, winemaking and all of the French wine regions. This core body of knowledge is important whether you sell wine, buy wine or teach about wine.
The FWS program allows wine professionals to set themselves apart from their peers by specializing in the wines of France. In addition, it is a great supplement for students of other advanced general wine study programs such as WSET Diploma, Master of Wine program, Court of Master Sommeliers’ Advanced Sommelier (and up) or CSW/CWE. While not a pre-requisite, we recommend that students successfully complete at least the lower level course from one of these organizations before entering the FWS program.
Our next session starts September 6 and will run on nine consecutive Tuesday evenings.
